    Dude from an outsider's perspective who has no bias it is very clear Ken Penders is a text book arrogant jackass. That ego is so big he thought he invented actual Sonic Concepts like Sonic riding on the tornado with Tails. He's a butthurt writer upset that the fandom has pushed against alot of his weird storytelling quirks. The only reason he won that lawsuit was because Archie was run by braindead idiots and did'nt think to keep secure records of things like Contracts. He got insanely lucky and it went straight to his head, don't play devils advocate for this jackass he deserves every bit of criticism for his behavior.

      Before you say I didn't watch the video or am biased against him. In particular I'm referring to the Chronicles lawsuit which Penders lost, trying to claim that any Echidna character was somehow a violation of his copyright, despite how different they're presented. This also extends to Penders threatening, but not taking action against the movies, probably because he knows he would lose against Paramount. Sega, as well as anybody in this situation would rather not waste hours in court over this issue, which is why they just don't make new echidna characters and have scrubbed most mentions of chronicles characters from their work despite winning the previous lawsuit. This is almost exactly like the Ultraman and Chaiyo controversy down to a potential forged signature.

Or Paperinik, or the *many* things outside Disney inspired by Barks' spectacular comics, directly or indirectly.

    This is unquestionably the best video on the Sonic comics I've ever seen. It's so tempting to want a clean narrative where Penders alone turns a kid's comic into a The Room-esque disaster. But it ignores all the realities of the industry and creating art, how many people contribute and collaborate to create the end product, and even just what the actual content of the comics are. I'm so glad someone told the story with the care for truth and nuance that it deserves.

    • @mredbadger
      @mredbadger 2 дня назад

      For sure. Its interesting to hear the full story without the snark that usually comes with Sonic drama I think people also ignore the chunk of time in the 90s where Sonic essentially stopped existing outside of comics, and ppl generally assumed it’d stay that way. You can see why Penders felt like he could put so much of himself into the characters, and why he felt like he lost something personal when the series started selling again and the comics got more staff The story is often just condensed to “weird writer who filled a kids comic with adult themes, then burned the whole thing down out of spite” but I do think the context helps. Doesn’t really make me like him though
